Consultant Materials Scientist
Dr Alastair Houston is a Consultant Materials Scientist based in our Cardiff office.
Alastair is an experienced Materials Scientist with M.A, M.Sci and Ph.D degrees in Materials Science and Metallurgy from the University of Cambridge. During this time, he was involved in several research investigations, with practical experience of laser welding, protective coatings and compositional variations of turbine blades, and the development of novel materials for nuclear waste storage.
Alastair’s Ph.D research concerned the development of composite diesel particulate filters through both practical experimentation and computational fluid dynamics. He has presented his research at international conferences and his work has been published in scientific journals.
Since joining MTD in 2019, Alastair has performed investigations for a wide variety of industries involving material quality disputes (metallics, polymerics and ceramics) welding issues, coating failures, corrosion, fatigue and fracture. He has given expert evidence in arbitration.
