Pharmaceutical, Chemical and Oil Consultant
Michael Butters is a Pharmaceutical, Chemical and Oil Consultant based in our Cardiff office.
Mike’s first degree was in Chemistry and was followed by a PhD in Synthetic Chemistry.
He began his career working on R&D projects for a major Oil and Chemicals Producer.
During the next 23 years, Mike worked for two Global Pharmaceutical Companies and was based in the EU and USA. Experienced in Pharmaceutical Development, Mike has managed a variety of different projects throughout the complete lifecycle from drug discovery to product launch. This experience also involved the transfer of drug substance processes from pilot scale into commercial plants operating to cGMP. Mike has defined the critical quality attributes for a variety of products and has used quality risk assessments to specify limits for many factors including shelf life, transport and storage conditions. In addition, he has experience of developing market extensions for licensed drugs as well as regulatory submission of CMC documentation.
In 2012, Mike moved into the Contract Manufacturing Industry as R&D Director where he enabled the development and manufacture of many new products including complex polymers, fine organic and inorganic chemicals. Diverse shipping requirements were adopted to serve client companies across a wide variety of sectors including electronics, agrochemicals, cosmetics, fuels and pharmaceuticals.
He has presented at a number of international conferences, has written or contributed to 40 publications and currently teaches part of an MSc course on Medicinal Chemistry.
